American Horror Story: Freak Show actor Ben Woolf died at age 34 on Monday afternoon after being hit in the head by a car last week.

TMZ reported the actor died of a stroke at Cedars-Sinai Medical Center where he has been hospitalised since being struck by a car mirror while crossing a Hollywood street on Thursday.

Woolf, best known for playing Meep on AHS, was allegedly struck by the side-view mirror of a passing SUV as he attempted to cross the street.

'We have been overwhelmed by the outpouring of love and support from all over the world for our beloved Ben. He touched so many hearts in his 34 year,' a family representative for the 4ft 4in actor told TMZ.

'His memory will live on within each of us and within his work,' the rep added.

The driver was not ticketed or arrested since Woolf was jaywalking.

A memorial service was being planned for next week in Santa Barbara.

Woolf's good friend and co-star Naomi Grossman told E! News on Saturday that it was 'awful' to hear about him being involved in the accident.

'We're all in contact and from what I understand Kathy Bates tweeted that he was out of surgery and he's now in stable yet still critical condition,' Grossman said.

'So we're just hoping for the best. I'm waiting like for any moment they're going to tell me I can go visit and I'll be there,' she added.

Woolf's condition was upgraded to critical but stable over the weekend, but he never regained consciousness.

His organs were being donated and would help about 50 people, his family said.

Woolf has previously starred in television movies such as Haunting Charles Manson, Dead In Kansas and Unlucky Charms.

He joined American Horror Story for the fourth season of the FX anthology series.

The Hollywood Reporter revealed last year that FX has ordered a fifth season, picking up 13 episodes.

The fifth season was reported to arrive October 2015.

Casting for the show, which often sees a change-up season to season, has yet to be announced.
