Joan Rivers' doctors allegedly delayed CPR to continue scheduled procedure

LOS ANGELES, Dec. 1 (UPI) -- New reports regarding the surgery that resulted in Joan River's death indicate her doctors failed to contact 911 as soon as the television personality went into shock.

According to Page Six, "confidential EMT records and a federal report" claim Dr. Gwen Korovin continued to operate on Rivers larynx and trachea for 14 minutes after her pulse and blood pressure began to drop 15 minutes into her scheduled surgery, which began at 9 a.m.

Additionally, Korovin and the former Yorkville Endoscopy medical director Dr. Lawrence Cohen allegedly waited an extra 10 minutes to contact 911 after they began their resuscitation efforts on Rivers at around 9:21 a.m.

When Rivers was transferred from the center to the Upper East Side clinic at 9:47 a.m Aug. 28 she reportedly "had no heartbeat, no pulse, she wasn't breathing."

"She had cyanosis around the lips and the mouth -- that's when your lips turn blue from lack of oxygen," said a source who spoke on condition of anonymity. "That takes several minutes without oxygen."

The insider added Rivers' doctors should've "stopped the procedure and started resuscitation right away and done an emergency tracheotomy if there was any obstruction."

"Maybe she would still be alive," said the source.

A medical examiner report stated Rivers died on Sept. 4 of a "therapeutic complication." Her daughter, Melissa Rivers, hired a law firm in October to investigate the death as she reportedly plans to file a multi-million dollar law suit against the clinic that was operating on her mother when she died. A medical report released in November, first stated the clinic's violations committed during the Fashion Police star's surgery.
