‘The smile you guys think is funny, the smile you are comparing to a leprechaun – she’s not a monster, she’s real.’
A young mother’s horrifying story has highlighted the hurt that can be done by laughing at pictures on Twitter.
Mariah Anderson two, suffers from a genetic disorder, Chromosome 2 Duplication Syndrome.
Sufferers usually live short lives.
But when her mother, Kyra Pringle, posted a birthday picture online, thousands of trolls attacked.
Some described the brave young girl as a ‘leprechaun’, or attempted to photoshop her image – thinking that the child was simply another internet joke to laugh at.
Tellingly, some of the young people have since deleted their Tweets, claiming that they didn’t know the girl was real.
But her mother says she that the bullies should know that their jokes hurt.
‘This is actually a human being, this is a child, this is a baby,’ she said.
