Actor Khan Bonfils dies unexpectedly during stage rehearsal

LONDON, Jan. 7 (UPI) -- Khan Bonfils, an actor known for his roles in the James Bond and Star Wars franchises died Tuesday during rehearsals for a stage production in London.

Bonfils, who was also known simply by the name Kan, collapsed while rehearsing for Dante's Inferno, which was scheduled to open Thursday at The Rag Factory.

"It is with great sadness that we announce the death of Kan Bonfils. During rehearsals for an upcoming performance, he collapsed and was unable to be resuscitated. His sudden loss is a tragedy, and he will be sorely missed," the CRAFT Theatre company announced on its Facebook page.

Chris Hislop, the theater company's spokesman, told The Telegraph director Rocky Rodriguez Jr. attempted to perform CPR on Bonfils.

"The entire company are in shock. There is absolutely severe sadness, it is a real tragedy. I think they are holding it together by talking it through and by being there for each other," Hislop said.

The cause of Bonfils' death was not reported.

CRAFT Theatre said on its website actor Ryan Prescott would take over Bonfils' role in Dante's Inferno and instead of opening Thursday, the play will begin Saturday.

Bonfils appeared in Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace, Skyfall and Batman Begins.
