An absurd rabbit-face gif posted by a girl in China on social networking site Sina Weibo has had the nation in stitches.

The series of animations show the girl pulling nine different ‘rabbit’ faces and is currently the hottest post on Sina Weibo, China’s equivalent of Twitter.

The post has been shared more than 150,000 times, was up-voted more than 38,000 times and has more than 23,000 comments spanning 1,00 pages, reported China Smack.

In the gif the girl pulls faces such as ‘Unhappy rabbit’, ‘Perverted rabbit’, ‘Asking to be beat up rabbit’, and ‘Lively/Cheerful rabbit’.

The hugely popular gif proves that animal gifs and memes are popular the world over.

Sina Weibo was launched in 2009 and currently has more than 500million registered users.

It has many of the same features as Twitter including a 140-character limit, the '@UserName' format and hashtags.

However Weibo, which means microblog in Chinese, is generally considered to have more of a focus on entertainment, whereas Twitter is considered to be a news-sharing platform.
