A veteran of the Boston Police Department who appeared on a TNT reality series about cops has died of an apparent suicide.

The law enforcement agency confirmed that officer Pat Rogers died Tuesday as a result of a 'non homicide,' but declined to provide additional details out of respect for his family.

Rogers appeared in the first season of Boston's Finest, which is being produced by actor Donnie Wahlberg.

Wahlberg's project on TNT focuses on the challenges and pressures officers face both on the job and at home.

'I am so deeply saddened tonight,' Wahlberg tweeted Tuesday. 'My thoughts and prayers go out to a fallen brother of The Boston Police Dept.'

News of Pat Rogers' passing came while the actor and producer, who is the brother of Mark Wahlberg, was in town for the premiere of the first episode of his show's second season, Boston Herald reported.

The Tuesday night screening at the Revere Hotel, which was supposed to be attended by Mayor Tom Menino, top police brass and the officers who appeared on the show, was canceled when word came down that Pat Rogers was dead.

‘We stand with the men and women of the Boston Police Department and send heartfelt condolences to family, friends and fellow officers,’ read a message on the Boston's Finest Facebook page.

According to his brief biography on TNT’s website, Rogers, a native of Dorchester, served on the force for eight years.

'From his blue-collar upbringing in Dorchester to his unmistakable accent to his relaxed personality, Pat Rogers is a Boston guy,' the bio read.

Raised by his mother and stepfather, Rogers was inspired by his police officer uncle to join the force.

The last two years, Rogers was partnered with Jennifer Penton. The officers’ on-screen camaraderie has won many viewers over.

‘They make a good pair on patrol, with Jenn amused by Pat's constant teasing, and always ready to throw one back at him,’ Roger’s online profile said. ‘But when the situation calls for it, Pat can be as tough as any cop on the street.‘

Officer Rogers was among the first Boston cops to be featured on season one of Wahlberg’s unscripted docu-series and appeared in multiple episodes, Examiner.com reported.

He has a less prominent role in the second installment of the project, which partially focuses on the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing.

Boston's Finest returns to TNT next Tuesday at 9pm eastern time.
